APW – Elgin, Veritas, very rare hunting case with winding indicator, Grade 274, 21J, 18S, gold-filled (with misleading "14" marking) HC recase with very attractive engraving of idyllic cabin scene on rear and bird with outstretched wings on front, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, raised gold jewel settings, gold train, ornate nickel damascene, s#10854229. Hunting case versions with Up/Down wind indicator are extremely rare among American production. Exact production is unknown but only a tiny fraction of Elgin's Grade 274 production was finished with winding indicator feature, and these are the only regular production hunting case wind indicator watches to have been made by a major American maker. Mvt: GRO, good winding indicator function, near mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates with few small micro-fine scratches, few minuscule specks of oxide on winding wheels; dial has patched flake in indicator-register; fine hands, hour with dulled finish, indicator-hand with minor oxide; case front hangs up on latch and requires a small touch of help releasing, case shows very little wear, few mild shallow dents to front, slight compression dent to center rear and more pronounced compression dent to central cuvette, excellent engraving detail, brassy bezel; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
